“Interreg for Safety” – Interreg Cooperation Day 2025

On 29 September 2025, Giurgiu became the venue for the Interreg Cooperation Day, held at the “Tudor Vianu” Theatre.

Under the theme “Interreg for Safety”, the event brought together partners from Romania and Bulgaria at the “Tudor Vianu” Theatre to mark an essential milestone: 35 years of Interreg cooperation.

A Reaffirmed Commitment to Common Security

As part of the event, the Tree of Cooperation was planted — a symbolic and meaningful act celebrating three and a half decades of European partnership, where cross-border collaboration is not only an ideal but also a necessity for the safety and well-being of local communities. Interreg Programmes are essential financial instruments enabling border communities to strengthen their intervention and civil protection capacities.

Mrs. Camelia COPORAN, Head of the Managing Authority of Interreg VI-A Romania–Bulgaria, highlighted the role of the Programme as a driver of cohesion and tangible support for the region, while Mr. Toma PETCU, President of Giurgiu County Council, emphasized the importance of local involvement and the need for efficient administrative cooperation.

The highlight of the day was the practical demonstrations and the presentation of intervention capacities, equipment, and cutting-edge technologies acquired through Interreg-funded projects, offering participants a broader perspective on effective action in emergencies. These activities underlined the crucial role of cooperation between Romania and Bulgaria in enhancing the safety of communities on both sides of the Danube.

Interreg Cooperation Day 2025 reconfirmed that investments in security and cross-border collaboration are essential for the well-being of citizens in the Romania–Bulgaria area.
